A proud President of DePaul University

holtschneiderA proud President of DePaul University  – Archbishop Cupich – “I stand in great admiration of all you do each day.”

President Dennis Holtschneider, CM of the Eastern Province provides context…

Dear Colleagues, We are honored today to host Archbishop Blase Cupich in his first formal visit to the university as the newly appointed Archbishop of Chicago.  I say his first “formal” visit, because he has in fact already been on campus to say Sunday night mass for our students in February and to attend the annual Bernardin Lecture a few weeks ago.  I invited the Archbishop to attend these events when I first met him in January and he immediately accepted.

Throughout the day the Archbishop will have opportunities to meet faculty, staff and students.  If you see him walking through the Lincoln Park campus today, feel free to approach, introduce yourself and welcome him to DePaul and Chicago.

Knowing he could not meet all of you in one day on only one campus, he wrote all of you the following message, which I’m happy to include below.

God bless,

Fr. Dennis Holtschneider, C.M.

Archdiocese of Chicago

April 27, 2015

Dear Members of the DePaul University Community,

For 117 years, DePaul has been educating the sons and daughters of Chicago, many of them the children of immigrants, often without great means. This magnificent work of the Church is an extraordinary gift to the city. Even today, its 170,000 living alumni populate nearly every workplace in the city.

As the nation’s largest Catholic university, the university has supported every archbishop since 1898 and assisted the Church in uncountable ways. This university is a gift to the poor, to the City of Chicago, and to the Church’s mission of being a blessing to all people of every faith. Those who work here and all who call themselves graduates have every reason to be proud of this great legacy. Your pride is something I share, as I stand in great admiration of all you do each day.

I look forward to working closely with DePaul for many years to come as it continues its work, always deeply rooted in the mission of the Church.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Blase J. Cupich
Archbishop of Chicago
