Lent is that gift from the Church where we are called to focus in new ways on our Baptismal commitment to live as followers of Jesus. The call is to renew our relationship with our merciful God and to extend ourselves with greater generosity to our neighbor.
The traditional means are prayer, fasting, and charity. As Vincentians, we are called daily to embrace these activities. Lent extends that call again.
St. Vincent calls us to be monks at home and missionaries outside the house. This Lent 2013 may we, in new ways in the monastery of our hearts, walk with Jesus on his way to Calvary. May we, with greater zeal, extend ourselves in charity to the poor and through our sacrifice make their lives richer.
Remember that we are dust and unto dust we shall return!
