Remembering Shrine Preacher
A gifted preacher and frequent Shrine guest speaker, Fr. Michael D. Whalen, CM, dies June 2, 2o20.
Fr. Michael D. Whalen, CM, Associate Professor of Theology at St. John’s University, died on Tuesday, June 2, of cancer at Long Island Jewish Hospital. He was 65 years old and lived in Murray House, residence of the Vincentian Community on the Jamaica, New York, campus.
Fr. Whalen was born in the Germantown section of Philadelphia on March 14, 1955. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 28, 1983.
A gifted preacher, Fr. Whalen promoted devotion to the Blessed Mother in his ministry at The Miraculous Medal Shrine in Philadelphia, where he frequently preached the Monday novena services.
