“Soon I Shall Fly,” the Spring Concert of the La Salle University Choir took place at the Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Philadelphia, PA on April 20, 2024.

A Special Message From The La Salle University Choir Director John Lewis

“The title of our concert is ‘Soon I Shall Fly.’ These words, come from one of the pieces on our program, but I especially chose it because this concert is given as a testament to the success of our choir over the past three years since the lifting of the COVID restrictions.

This current incarnation of our choir is a special one. I became leader of the group in August 2021 after the Covid restrictions were lifted. At that time the group was small, only six or seven members.

We now have 15 singers. We continue to grow. Many of our inaugural members are now seniors who are anticipating graduation and going out into the world to begin working in the fields for which they have been so zealously studying. Thus, ‘Soon I Shall Fly,’ in a way, is a swansong for these seniors, as well as words of mission for those students who will be move up and continue to carry on the legacy.

We are so excited to have our first concert at the Basilica Shrine of the Miraculous Medal. It is most fitting that this be the location for this event given the liturgical involvement our choir has had at the Basilica Shrine. In the coming years, we hope to deepen the relationship between the Basilica Shrine and La Salle University.”
