Fr. Tom McKenna, CM
“Sometime in 17th Century Paris, a crowd of people are standing on a high balcony overlooking the slums of the city. Some are from the nobility, others are ordinary citizens, and then there’s Louise de Marillac and Vincent de Paul. What did each group see?
Perhaps a bit unfair to the nobles, but more than likely they saw trouble, a blotch in their beautiful city, a nest of criminals and ladies of the night. The citizens? Perhaps a lot of buildings in disrepair.
What of Vincent and Louise looking out at the same neighborhood? How differently they take in the scene. For them, it’s a zone of destitute people in need of shelter, clothing, food – and acceptance. More directly, they see very poor people who are loved by God, indigent families who have the mark of Jesus Christ on them and within them.
Same vista but different interpretations, same scene viewed through very different lenses.”
Fr. Pat Griffin, CM
“At St. John’s, on this past Sunday, we had the Rite of Acceptance for our students who would participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program during this year. Eight of the students were seeking Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion; nine others sought Confirmation and First Communion.
After many months of preparation, they will receive their sacraments at Easter time 2025.
In the celebration of Baptism for infants, the celebrant asks the new parents what they seek for their child, and they respond ‘Baptism.’
During the Rite of Acceptance for adults, the ritual allows a broader question. And so, on Sunday, we gathered the candidates in the Narthex of St. Thomas More Church as they were surrounded by their relatives, friends and peers. Then, Fr. Aidan Rooney asked each of them individually: ‘What brought you here today?’ The responses to that question were uplifting and touching.”

Help the Vincentians on #GivingTuesday
The Vincentian Priests and Brothers of the Eastern Province serve those on the margins in areas often forgotten by the world.
The Central Association of the Miraculous Medal (CAMM) was founded by a Vincentian priest more than 100 years ago.
CAMM’s #GivingTuesday early giving campaign is now open via #iGiveCatholic. Please consider supporting the many ministries of CAMM and the Vincentians of the Eastern Province including the Basilica Shrine, our Beyond Sunday® program, religious vocations, outreach for people with spiritual and tangible needs, and spreading the devotion of Mary and her Miraculous Medal.
May Our Lady’s love, blessings, and grace continue to shower upon you always.
