HE LEADETH ME

by Fr. Walter Ciszek, SJ as told to Fr. Daniel Flaherty, SJ

He Leadeth Me is the story of Fr. Walter Ciszek, an American Jesuit ministering in Poland during World War II, who was arrested by the Russians after the war and falsely accused of being an American spy. He was tortured, imprisoned, and sent to a gulag in Siberia, where he remained for 23 years until he was freed by the Soviets in 1963. He returned to the United States and wrote on his experiences and the challenge to maintain his faith. This book is both a recalling of his many experiences and a meditative reflection on the power of faith in the midst of a terrible and seemingly endless ordeal. I have read and reread this book and always find it inspiring no matter how many times I return to it.
